Marea grew out of TDO Software, an endodontic PMS used by specialists across North America. When we built AI into dental workflow, we didn't have to imagine how a practice runs. We already knew.
Before Marea, there was TDO — an endodontic practice management system serving specialists across North America. When we set out to build AI tools for dental practices, we had an unusual advantage: we didn't have to guess what the inside of a dental practice looked like. We already knew.
We spent a full year building inside active TDO practices — not in a conference room, not based on user research reports. We sat beside front desk staff, watched assistants take notes, listened to how calls were handled, and observed how patient information moved between systems. More than a hundred doctors gave direct feedback. That year shaped everything Marea became.
Every practice we worked with had the same challenges — just in different forms. Note quality that depended entirely on which assistant was in that day. Calls going unanswered during procedures, during lunch, after hours. A stack of disconnected tools — scheduling here, charting there, intake forms on paper — that forced staff to spend more time managing software than managing patients.
And referral letters going out by mail or unsecured email, with no way to know if they'd ever been received. These weren't edge cases. They were the baseline. The teams dealing with them were talented and dedicated — they were just working with software that wasn't built for them.
Dental professionals trained for years to care for patients. What we saw in those practices wasn't a talent problem or a dedication problem — it was a software problem. The tools dental teams were using demanded too much of them: too much manual input, too many systems to learn, too much time on tasks that shouldn't require a human at all.
We built Marea to be the layer that handles all of that — quietly, in the background. The Scribe listens in the operatory so notes write themselves. The Receptionist answers calls so no patient goes unheard. Smart Forms send themselves so intake paperwork is done before patients arrive. Referral Letters generate from existing notes and track every step of the way. None of it requires changing how your practice operates. It just works.
We didn't build this for the dental industry.
We built it from the dental industry.
Marea is now used by over 400 dental practices across North America — from solo endodontists to multi-location groups. The platform has grown beyond its endodontic roots into general dentistry, oral surgery, orthodontics, and beyond.
Marea is part of Valsoft Corporation, a portfolio of 160+ vertical software companies built to hold, not flip. There is no exit timeline, no pressure to pivot, no risk of disappearing after a funding round. Just a long-term commitment to building software that dental practices can depend on — for years, not quarters.
